Shadow Trade The Price Of Loyalty: Exposing The Truth Behind The Illegal Dog Meat Trade in Thailand & Vietnam

Thousands of dogs are being taken from homes and streets in Thailand. The conditions under which the dogs are transported and slaughtered are inhumane and many die from suffocation, disease and injuries long before they reach the killing places in Thailand and Vietnam. The trade is criminal from start to finish.

About the film

The film is an investigative documentary into the horrors surrounding the dog meat trade in Thailand. We are working alongside the Thai-based charity, The Soi Dog Foundation (https://www.soidog.org) in their campaign in stopping the endless suffering of these animals.
The film is set in Thailand, where we follow a retired British journalist investigating the truths behind this barbaric trade in the hope of exposing and raising awareness to the dog meat trade.

Through this, we hope to strengthen the laws and legislations against this appalling practice, set aside money for the shelters – eventually putting an end to the dog meat trade altogether.

Funding

Here at Environment Films we work on a non for profit basis for charities, all profit from this feature will be put back into the Soi Dog Foundation, helping rescue and rehabilitate the dogs from the dog meat trade and beyond. Our crew have all worked for a small payment or on an expenses-only basis, as we know that the dogs can do with each penny.

Your help will give us the chance to finish this film to the high quality it deserves. We aim to sell the film to broadcasters, which makes a perfect finish even more important. By getting the film onto television, both internationally and in Thailand, we reach the biggest audience possible. Your money will go towards the post-production (sound mix, graphics, music and voice over) of Shadow Trade.

‘Soi Dog The Movie’ The Shame Of Phuket,Thailand

The Soi Dog Foundation (SDF) is pleased to announce the release of the full-length feature documentary Soi Dogs, produced by Environment Films. The 66-minute documentary is far from the standard charity campaign film. Although it does give an insight into the day-to-day challenges of the foundation, it is also a human story, one that combines tragedy and compassion with humour and excitement. It is inspirational and involving throughout and is suitable for the entire family to watch.

The documentary enjoyed its premiere screening at Riverside Studios, Hammersmith, London, and received a standing ovation from the capacity audience.  The movie made it’s southern hemisphere debut in Melbourne, Australia in January of 2010 and raised over $12,000 dollars in donations. If you might be interested in hosting a regional showing of the movie please contact us at info@soidog.org.

Director Ella Todd describes her time with the foundation as: “A wonderful strain. During filming, we saw dogs that had been shot, attacked by machetes, even set on fire, yet these stoic animals still managed to find trust in people. We saw first-hand what a remarkable charity the SDF is: A charity full of hope and one that is making significant progress and a real difference, not only to the individual dogs but also the bigger picture. Soi Dogs is a combination human-and-animal story and is designed to inspire, not disturb. Had we produced a film that solely depicts the reality of the suffering that the dogs endure, sadly we wouldn’t have an audience. We are delighted by the response the documentary has so far received and are confident that having watched it, people will reach out even farther to help those that in Thailand are considered a nuisance but who in the West we consider our best friends.

“Leaving the UK to retire to Thailand sounds like a dream, but a dream can quickly become a nightmare, and paradise can turn on you in a second. Following key members of Soi Dog carrying out their daily responsibilities, this documentary is a testament to their valour, compassion and dedication in helping the estimated 20,000 dogs living wild in Phuket. Faced with horror and inhumanity each day, the foundation’s managers battle on regardless, but when adversity turns into incomprehensible personal tragedy, is their will strong enough to fight another day?”

Kim Kardashian Hates Dogs And Loves Wearing Dead Animals

During Kim Kardashian’s 72 day marriage the reality star would nag her fiance Kris Humphries about his two dogs, Gizmo a Yorkshire terrier and his Chihuahua Brodi because he allowed the dogs to sleep in their bed and Kim wanted the small dogs put outside.

Kris Humphries And Dogs Gizmo & Brodi

“Kim doesn’t like dogs at all, but did love to have her picture taken publicly with Kris’ dogs though when they were together,” a source close to the situation tells RadarOnline.com. “The dogs were a constant source of stress during Kim and Kris’ relationship. Kris has had the dogs since they were puppies and he has loved them like his children. Kim wanted the dogs to be kept outside whenever they were together. Kris wouldn’t allow it because they are small dogs and aren’t outdoor dogs. Kim thinks dogs are dirty and messy, and she is a complete neat freak.”

“No! They cannot sleep on my bed!” she exclaimed when Humphries invited his pups to join them between the sheets. “Kris, they’re not allowed in my bed! That’s silk right there!”

The next morning, when Humphries put Gizmo on the kitchen counter to “pull his eye boogers out,” Kardashian expressed her displeasure with her new bed-mates. “Things are so good that you’re just trying to make up something,” Humphries told her, but she insisted.

Maybe cats too

“Kim wants to put my dogs in crates,” he said. “Like, come on. She’s used to being on her own and having things her way. This is a part of marriage. We compromise.”

Models Joanna Krupa & Katie Cleary Hold Anti-Fur Protest At Kim Kardashian’s Clothing Boutique DASH

As animal advocate group Care2 members were protesting the wearing and selling of fur at reality star Kim Kardashian’s Calabasas (Los Angeles) clothing boutique Dash, Kim her sisters and mother Kris jetted off to the Dominican Republic to film their reality show.

Models Joanna Krupa and Katie Cleary were the face of the fur protest along with comedian Andy Dick who joined the ladies to present the Kardashian sisters with a petition from 140,000 Care2 members asking them to stop selling fur and for Kim to stop wearing fur.

It’s easy to see why Kim might not have wanted to be present for the protest, given that she not only loves to wear fur, but was flour-bombed during an initial protest just over a week ago.
In a statement to RadarOnline.com, 32-year-old Polish American model Krupa said: ‘One of the most influential families in the entertainment industry that could help give animals a voice on a large scale are the Kardashians.
‘As a fashion-forward family with their clothing line in stores all over the US, they have the power to influence millions of people around the world.’

Kim and family arrived back in Los Angeles last night to re-launch their store Dash to Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood.

‘This weekend Kourt, Khloe, and I all met with designer Jeff Andrews to start working on the new DASH LA store.
‘Since we’ve opened DASH stores in Miami and NYC we decided that we want to re-vamp our west coast store and open a brand new LA location!’

“PETA has tried everything from polite letters to public protests, but Kim Kardashian has not been moved by the news that animals are beaten, electrocuted and even skinned alive for real fur garments,” a PETA spokesman shared with TMZ. “Whoever threw that flour may reach her when our polite appeals did not.”

As a self-described animal lover and dog owner, how could she continue wearing fur — the very same fur from the slaughter of innocent animals? Not wearing fur would speak volumes and dispel the public’s notion of Kardashian’s beauty as only skin deep.

Flour Bomb Lands on Kim Kardashian’s Lack of Empathy for Animal Cruelty

Kim Kardashian got a bit of flour power as she was posing and doing TV interviews on the Red Carpet for her new True Reflection perfume.

A woman came from behind, yelled, “Fur hag,” and then dumped an entire bag of white flour on top of the reality star’s head to the shock of celebrity interviewers, publicists and her other handlers.

The embarrassing incident was captured by cameras and quickly went viral on social media.

The stinker of reality TV has been (big) butts of many jokes because she divorced her hubbie after 72 days of marriage bliss, has been accused of using child laborer in horrible conditions to make her clothing line and a laundry list of other Kardashian catastrophes.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals or PETA named her the worst dress celebrity in 2010 because she still wears fur.

But the 31-year-old celebrity may have jumped the proverbial shark with me. Kardashian laughed off the latest flour bombing indent, telling E! TV Thursday night: “That probably is the craziest, unexpected, weird thing that ever happened to me. Like I said to my makeup artist, I wanted more powder and that’s a whole lot of translucent powder right there.”

Security guards held the alleged flour bomber, described as a young Asian woman, until paramedics arrived at the London Hotel in West Hollywood and determined Kardashian was not harmed.

However, several days later, the fur-wearing Kardashian changed her tune and has indicated she is moving forward with pressing charges.

“I am just going to think about it, because I don’t want someone to think they can really get away with that,” she said. “So we are going to handle that.”

PETA immediately blasted Kardashian’s plan with with a statement released to TMZ. “If she presses charges, at least people will be constantly reminded of her selfish, callous disregard for the cruel deaths that she causes by wearing fur,” the animal rights group said. “How much better it would be if she decided to evolve and enhance her image by donating her vulgar furs and exotic-animal skins to the homeless. The activist acted from the heart, something Kim doesn’t seem to have. If anything, Kim should get a life, the very thing that she denies animals.”

The group was not involved in the flour dumping but said it is planning to help with the flour-bomber’s defense costs.

As a celebrity, Kardashian has a chance to help change the world. She and her family of Armenian decent have done some of it by bringing the Armenian genocide to greater awareness. Using her star power, she could help bring attention to needless animal cruelty in the fur fashion industry.

Amanda Seyfriend’s Love Of Rescue Dogs, The Wizard Of Dogz Fundraiser in Beverly Hills

Actress Amanda Seyfried star of Mean Girls and her current release ‘In Time’ with Justin Timberlake shares her thoughts at the Amanda Foundation’s fundraiser in Beverly Hills about the importance of rescuing animals from a local shelter. If you live in the Los Angeles Area http://AmandaFoundtion.org is a great place to rescue a dog or cat in need of a permanent home.

Every year, Los Angeles County’s 28 shelters are forced to destroy well over 200,000 pets. These animals were either strays or brought into the shelters by their owners. We believe they all should have a second chance, and we will work tirelessly to rescue as many as possible.

Adoptees are taken directly from the shelters to veterinarians where they are given any necessary medical treatment, including initial inoculations and boosters. Adults are then spayed or neutered. When puppies and kittens become of age, they will be altered by the Amanda Foundation at our expense.

Dedicated volunteers give the shy and mistreated orphans special attention and spend hours daily walking frightened and insecure dogs and petting and reassuring the timid kittens and cats. It may take weeks before some of our animals are ready for adoption, but we feel that loving care and rehabilitation are worth every hour spent.

Volunteers are always needed at the Amanda Foundation, and we have a special need for foster homes for mother cats and dogs with kittens and puppies. Please call (310)278-2935.

Pink Sees Red Over Pink Horses In Selena Gomez Video

Pregnant Pink was out for a walk on Malibu Beach when she stumbled upon Selena Gomez filming her new video “I Love You Like A Love Song”, with two spray painted horse that did not amuse the singer/animal activist. Pink took to her twitter and tweeted:

“Artists should be more aware and responsible for their actions,” Pink later tweeted.

Selena’s rep stated, “A non-toxic, vegetable-based powder paint was applied via an airbrush and removed with water. An official from The Humane Society was on set supervising…it was important to the Production Company, Record Label and Ms. Gomez that no animals were harmed and all proper precautions were taken.”

Perhaps Gomez can spray paint her beau Justin Bieber Pink for his next video?  “Vegetable based powder” should be used on Easter eggs not animals.

Godaddy CEO Bob Parsons Creates Firestorm Over Elephant Hunt

Bob Parsons Godaddy.com CEO

Bob Parsons, the CEO of the internet hosting company godaddy.com, is embroiled in a controversy after killing an elephant in Zimbabwe and posting the video on his blog. Parson’s justifies the killing of this magnificent animal saying the meat fed the villagers and scared the rest of the herd away from their crops.

The CEO says he only kills one elephant and concentrates on old bulls, which he said,  “has no effect on the herd” (except it’s now dead) “because younger bulls breed in their place.

Parsons goes onto to say, “The people there have very little, many die each year from starvation and one of the problems they have is the elephants, of which there are thousands and thousands, that trash many of their fields destroying the crops. These people have literally nothing and when an elephant is killed it’s a big event for them, they are going to be able to eat some protein.”

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals closed its account with the hosting company and issued this statement on their website Peta.org:

“Parsons is hiding behind the lame claim that killing elephants helps farmers in Africa whose crops are damaged by the animals. In fact, there are ample effective and nonlethal methods to deter elephants from crops, including using chili-infused string and beehives on poles to create low-cost ‘fences,’ ” the note said. “Instead of coming up with flimsy excuses for killing these highly intelligent and social animals, Parsons should use his wealth to fund humane solutions to human/elephant conflicts.”

PETA said that Parsons has also killed at least one “leopard for his personal enjoyment.”

Change.org reinterated what many animal rights groups and the socially conscious advocate. “If Parsons truly wants to be a hero, he should donate the thousands of dollars he spent to kill that elephant on his vacation to organizations that are working on humane ways to resolve the problem all year round.”

Bob Parsons--It should be against the law for anyone over 60 to wear nugget earrings

Wayne Pacelle with the Humane Society of The United States said, if Parsons wants to help the people of Africa, I suggest he spend a day with Oprah Winfrey or Bill Gates and learn how real charitable work on the continent is done. They’ve invested of their time and considerable wealth to promote education, housing, nutrition, and public health. And last time I checked, they didn’t leave a trail of animal victims they’ve personally slain at the end of their visit. If he wants to help people keep elephants out of crop fields, he should fund the building of solar-powered fences like those successfully used for this purpose in neighboring South Africa. My guess is Mr. Parsons went to Africa to shoot an elephant, and perhaps some other creatures, and then tried to find some high-sounding rationale for his gambit.”

Taraji P. Henson Bears All For Sexy PETA Ad

NoahFairbanks.com

Actress Taraji P. Henson joins a growing list of compassionate celebrities who are speaking up for animals by refusing to wear fur. She bares all in a super sexy ad for PETA’s iconic “I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur” campaign and shows off her skin to help animals keep theirs.

“I don’t think a living being should suffer for the sake of fashion, period,” Henson proclaims. “End of story.” Suffering and furs go hand in hand. Animals on fur farms spend their entire lives confined to cramped, filthy wire cages before meeting a painful death. Denied proper veterinary care, they languish with open wounds and sores in cages. These living conditions can cause the animals severe psychological distress, and consequently, many of the animals turn to self-mutilation and cannibalism.

Taraji P. Henson On The Red Carpet- Nominated For Best Supporting Actress

Henson shares with PETA, “When I realized what went into—not just, we’re not just even talking about a full-length fur coat, I’m talking about just … fur on your gloves or on your jacket or—what goes into making that little piece of fur ripped my heart out. And as humans, we have control. What if someone said, ‘Black skin is the new fur’?”

Justin Bieber: ‘Animals Can Make U Smile’

NoahFairbanks.com

This Grammy-nominated breakthrough artist is taking time out of his busy schedule to star in his second heartwarming PSA (public service announcement) for PETA encouraging people to adopt animals from shelters instead of buying them from breeders or pet stores.

Justin sings the praises of our furry friends in his PSA that reads, “Animals Can Make U Smile. Adopt From Your Local Shelter.” Every year, 6 to 8 million abandoned or stray dogs and cats enter animal shelters—and half of them must be euthanized because of a lack of good homes. Justin wants his fans to know that buying a dog or a cat from a pet store or a breeder takes a home away from a deserving animal waiting in a shelter for a loving family.
